Update on Mom

Are you ready for this?

When Mom commits herself to something she really commits.... but, personally, this is ridiculous, Mom.

Just a little "mis-step" was all it took. Thursday afternoon Mom saw a friend from church at the store and told her the doctors were concerned about the possibility of her falling and breaking her already weakened leg. By Friday morning--(as in 12:00 a.m. Friday morning) ... she had done just that.  Ouch.

Praise God for His protection, great medical care and for this:

That is a 14mm rod inserted into her femur running from her hip to her knee. It matches the one she had put in 10 years ago into the other leg.  Yeah, it's all about symmetry, you know.

She is resting and in much less pain now. It looks like she'll return home on Monday or Tuesday of next week.   Dad is holding up well but could use some rest, too... he's had an interesting week.

We are planning on taking Mom ice-skating with us next weekend... anyone want to join us?

All I can say to the first x-ray picture is..."oh...my...goodness!" I can't believe the break.

So glad though that you were not alone and that it is being taken care of, even if it probably wasn't the best method.

Love you

Because the picture isn't creepy enough - I'll add some more.

In talking to Mom, she said that she tripped over the slippers causing her to misstep putting all her weight on her left leg. She heard a snap and knew her leg had just broken. As she fell, she grabbed her left leg and felt the bone pushing out. She had to hold her leg, pushing against the broken bone to "minimize" the pain and keep the bone "in place."

That's not all. When they got her into the emergency room, the doctor looked at her leg and said, "It's definitely broken. Your left leg is about 4 inches shorter than your right."

Shudder.

She said it was the worst pain ever. Topped childbirth.

Poor Mom.

Did I already mention...YUK!! That just makes me cringe me.

I second Dad's grace in that you weren't alone.
